8 Things I’ve Learned Since Becoming a Mom
Being a Mom is Not Something You Can Prepare For
I had a million books. I did a ton of research (..Pinterest, Google, Mom Blogs). Talked to many friends but truly nothing was going to fully prepare me for mommyhood except for first hand experience. I think the 1st month was definitely the hardest because it was all so new (..and we had help)!
Awake at 2am and Not By Choice
I can vaguely remember choosing to be up at 2am by choice.. Ha! The thought of staying out until the middle of the night sounds completely dreadful. Now trying to stay alert at 2am is definitely not the easiest thing to do. At least I’m in PJ’s and in the comfort of my own home.
Caffeine is a LIFESAVER
On that note… Caffeine is a total necessity the minute I wake up. I seriously feel as if I can’t function without it. Also, a late afternoon cup of coffee always sounds fantastic, too.
Google is Your New BFF
As much as I hate looking up symptoms online, I still do it for a piece of mind. I mean without google, I’d have to have our pediatrician’s number on speed dial because I’d be calling her all day long. I google everything from abnormal poop colors to baby milestones.
Mom Guilt is the WORST
I truly didn’t understand “mom guilt” until I got my first taste of it. As a mom, I feel like you take blame for anything and everything there is. Baby lost weight after birth (which is totally normal, FYI) somehow you put the blame on yourself. Baby doesn’t like tummy time? I’m sure it’s got something to do with you. I mean it sounds crazy, but I literally have had those thoughts and then some.
I’ll be Ready in 3 Hours
It took me awhile to get ready before I had Brooke. Especially if I was washing my hair that day. Now to get Brooke ready and myself ready? Oh man, it takes hours. I’ve said this before but I really took advantage of all the time I once had. How did I ever think I was busy before?
The World Can Be Scary
Motherhood is the Hardest Job I’ve Ever Had
Motherhood is a lot of work. I mean, a lot. It’s a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week sort of job. Oh and, you work for free! However, it’s the most rewarding job you’ll ever have. It is worth every tear, worry, and frustration you may feel. The fact that we can grow and carry another human inside of us for almost 10 months is unbelievable if you really think about it. Mom’s are strong individuals. Be proud of yourself. And, I don’t want to forget the dads either. You guys are awesome, too! 🙂
