How To: Dress Your Baby Bump
Oh, it’s been a struggle. How does one dress their bump and still feel cute?
My wardrobe style had no choice but to adjust with my newly growing belly. First off, all of my pre-pregnancy pants do not even go over my hips. If I even attempted to wear them, I’d end up with broken zippers and busted seams. Sad, I know! Not to mention, all of my old maxi dresses don’t fit the same. They either become too short or just make me look heavy rather than pregnant. My t-shirts are the only thing that haven’t failed me. However, I can’t just live in t-shirts!
Oh wow, was I in for a rude awakening. Everyone told me, just go to your normal stores and buy a size up, you’ll be fine. Oh and that maternity clothes were a waste of money..
Were they kidding?!
I was absolutely not fine. First of all, I felt so uncomfortable shopping in my “normal” pre-pregnancy stores especially when they didn’t have a maternity section. What was I doing there? I felt like I was Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman when she was shopping on Rodeo Drive. You remember that scene right? When the employees gave her all sorts of looks and made it known she didn’t fit in – that was me.
After trying on the entire dress section of Forever 21, I realized I had no business trying to buy clothes from here while still pregnant. They just don’t work! All of their dresses didn’t fit properly. Why you ask? BECAUSE I’M PREGNANT!
After leaving the mall feeling completely defeated (almost in tears), I came home to research where pregnant women shopped for clothes. Within minutes I came across a website called, Pink Blush. It was like the universe was saying, I know you’ve had a rough day trying to shop.. check out this site, it’s everything you were looking for today.
Would you believe me if I told you they had the cutest clothes for us, mom’s to be?! Oh AND that they weren’t overpriced?! (That’s a whole other blog post coming soon.) I found some fantastic dresses that I could actually order in my size because I knew they were made to fit my baby bump! What a relief!
So here are my tips for Dressing Your Bump:
Purchase Maternity Clothes When Your Clothes Stop Fitting
Learn from my mistakes. You’ll look better and most importantly, you’ll feel so much more comfortable.
Form Fitting > Loose Fitting
Unless you’re in your first trimester (the awkward stage), you’ll probably want to show off your belly so that people know you’re pregnant!
You Can Never Go Wrong With Leggings
Dress them up or keep them casual. These will be your BFF on many days.
Don’t Forget To Accessorize
If you feel like your outfit is lacking style, add a belt or some jewelry to your look.
Layering is Key
My hips instantly grew when I became pregnant. I felt a tad insecure in anything tight so I typically layered my outfits with long cardigans which helped conceal my ever-growing hips!
Or any type of support you prefer! They make the world of difference when you’re belly starts to grow.
