DIY – Operation: Cover AC Unit!
Was it just me or was this AC unit a major eye-sore in my patio?
The way my patio furniture is set up, you can’t help but notice that big, bulky thing just hanging out over there by the fence. It must be a mix of my OCD and Pregnancy but I couldn’t stand looking at it any longer. What was I going to do? I couldn’t move the thing?!
Thank God for Pinterest. I discovered a million ways to cover it, however did I really think I could build something myself? A little about me, I am the least bit handy. Would you believe I had never even picked up a power drill? So, on that that note – what made me think I was going to create this fence ON MY OWN?
Despite my own doubts, I really wanted to prove to myself that I could do this. I drove to Home Depot with some basic measurements and crossed my fingers I would receive help from a knowledgeable employee. It must have been my lucky day because not only did they give me everything I’d possibly need, they gave me a few tips as well.
So.. You want to know how I did it?!
First lets talk about what you’ll need:
First, I measured out and marked where each cedar plank would start. That way they’d be even!
From there I started drilling slowly.. ( I was told that if I drilled too fast, I could snap the wood)
Once I got the hang of it, I started powering through each side like it was nothing! I was shocked when I could actually see a fence coming along!
The only challenge I was facing at this point was simply being on my own. I felt like a second hand would have been extremely beneficial in helping hold down the wood while I was drilling. Not to mention, it was starting to get heavy!
However I didn’t let that stop me. I was determined to get the fence part done before my husband came home.
Even he was shocked. I don’t think he ever imagined a power drill in my hand. At this point, I felt like a pro and couldn’t wait to finish this project.
Once the fence was finished, I went to back to Home Depot where I picked out planter boxes and some plants. Some of plants I chose were: Basil, Mint, Lemon Scented Geranium (all mosquito repellent plants).
Once I had the boxes drilled into the fence, I got to planting and viola.. my project was complete!
What do you think?! SO much better, right?? Now lets just hope I keep these babies alive. 🙂
